Our Work

Are you looking for a way to make a difference in your community or communities around the
world? There’s a project happening that needs you.

Interesting Facts

While we have engaged in a wide variety of service projects over the years, and will continue to do so, several projects have emerged as signature projects of the club, projects that have been part of our annual calendar for multiple years.

  • Pulse Polio Immunization (since 1989):    Like all Rotary clubs we are fully behind the Rotary International initiative to eradicate Polio from the world.
  • Intercollegiate Debates (since 1989):  In partnership with the L.N. Birla Foundation, we sponsor a regional round of the L.N. Birla Inter Institutional National Debate with the winners advancing to the national round.
  • Special Children's Program (since 1990):  Over the years we have made it a priority to engage these special children in a variety of ways.  While our intention is to touch their hearts, we think they have a far greater impact on us.
  • Sleeping Kits (since 1994):  In partnership with a Canadian NGO, Sleeping Children Around the World (www.scaw.org), we have distributed 14,000 sleeping kits to needy children in Pune and the surrounding rural districts.  Every kit is assembled and distributed by Rotarians in conjunction with SCAW volunteers and local community leaders.  It's a huge labor of love, and it's worth every aching muscle.
  • Aap Ki Adalat (since 1997):  This even highlights issues of importance to consumers and Rotarians in a lively and interactive manner.
  • Rubella Immunization (since 2006):  This is the newest addition to our signature project list, but it's been carried out with such scale (nearly 15,000 vaccinations administered in 4 years) and passion that we are committed to running forward.  The Rubella virus is extremely harmful to unborn children - often causing birth defects or even death.  Yet a single Rubella vaccination can inoculate a person against the virus for over 10 years.  So, we are on a campaign to immunize the girl children of the rural districts surrounding Pune where it is not common for them to have received the standard MMR vaccine earlier in childhood.
